Lis (she/her) is a learning enthusiast and is excited to continue her learning through her work with LDAY. Lis provides Brain Injury Support at LDAY using a peer support perspective. She started Concussion Cafe Yukon (our peer support group for people with head injuries) after a life-changing injury 9 years ago.

In her former life, Lis studied Child and Youth Care at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her practicum took her into work with LD-specialized camps and therapeutic support work on the land in Ontario. This opened up her world and also brought forward her own learning differences with more clarity and compassion.

Through her post-concussion healing journey, Lis has learned about advocacy, nutrition, mindset, mindfulness, nervous system regulation, executive functioning, and how incredible and resilient our brains and bodies truly are. She is currently doing a mentorship in Somatic Experiencing, studying how we relate to ourselves and each other. She’s also learning tools to better support those relationships as brain injury ripples out through every part of our lives. The brain injury supports at LDAY continue to evolve and grow to meet the needs of our community. Lis is excited to be developing her skill set and the infrastructure to build these supports.

Lis does this work better with the warmth and co-regulation of her trusty sidekick, Echo, who also works at LDAY. Outside of her love of learning and connecting, Lis feels most alive when singing, dancing, creating things, or spending time with wild plants and the birds by the lake. She was raised lakeside under Maple and White Pines and has found a home here by the water again, this time under spindly, resilient Spruce, near Wild Rose and with the Swainson’s Thrush.
