tutoring

LDAY offers individualized support for students from elementary to college level. Tutoring focuses on academic subjects and may include organizational / study strategies. Lessons are usually 1:1, either in person or through an online platform such as Zoom.

Procedure

  • Intake interview with the parent or caregiver to discuss the needs of the student. This takes 45-60 minutes and can be done in person or over the phone.

  • For students enrolled in school, recent report cards & formal assessments are helpful.

  • Recommendations from classroom teachers and/or learning assistance teachers are also helpful.

  • A match is made once a suitable tutor is found and schedules align.

  • Frequency, duration, location, and scheduling are specific to each student.

tutors

  • LDAY tutors are contracted on a casual basis.

  • Many tutors are experienced teachers or may have specialized training.

  • All tutors have had an interview, references checked, and a criminal record check.

  • LDAY regularly offers tutors resources on learning disabilities, teaching strategies, and workshops.

payment & invoicing

  • Tutoring costs $31.50 - $50.00 per hour, depending on experience and training.

  • $20 flat fee for formal sit-down meetings with parents or teachers.

  • $20 for missed appointments.

  • Tutors invoice LDAY, usually monthly.

  • LDAY invoices the client or pre-arranged third-party funders.

  • Tutors provide monthly progress summaries to LDAY.

  • LDAY has a bursary program. Please inquire if you need funding assistance.

Client Role

  • Punctual attendance is important for maximum benefit.

  • Tutoring sessions are 1 hours. We recommend a minimum of 2 tutoring sessions per week, but schedule is tailored to the needs of the individual.

  • Ask the tutor about their cancellation procedures and the amount of notice required to avoid missed appointment fees.

  • If tutoring is outside office hours, we request a parent to remain on site.

  • Contact the program coordinator for changes to the main goal of tutoring, or schedule changes that affect your funding plan or room allocation.
